Sunnyside Primary Academy

E-Safety

Children at  Sunnyside Primary Academy use the Internet on a regular basis as part of their learning.  Technology helps to enhance children’s learning and we want to ensure our pupils get the most from it, by encouraging  responsible online behaviour. At the Academy we use a filtering system; to prevent children accessing any sites which we would deem inappropriate. We also ensure each year group covers some ‘e-safety’ activities to remind children of the importance of keeping themselves safe online. We encourage the children to access the Internet at home.

E-Safety is also taught formally as part of the computing curriculum.  We use Kapow for computing and each Year Group is taught how to keep themselves safe on the Internet.  We also run parent workshops and children workshops led by NSPCC and NCC.  E-Safety is also taught in assemblies.

Mrs Tearle is our ICT subject lead and can answer any questions you might have on e-safety.

There is also a wealth of online activities that the children can access in order to support their learning. Below are some tips and useful links to help you to keep your children safe online:

  • Talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, set up your computer in a shared area at home so that you can all share in the wonderful sites that are available online.
  • Many of these sites have a minimum age limit of 13, so our pupils should NOT be using them.
  • Provide children with a list of suitable websites that they can access independently; save these in your favourites menu on your computer.

Please see your child’s class teacher, to find out which websites the children find engaging, useful and stimulating for their learning.

Go to our ‘Keeping Safe on the Internet’ page for useful e-safety links for you and your children.
